THE NEW SABRE TARGET
Mr. George H. Breed, our Foreign Correspondent, has notified us of a change in the sabre target to conform with the F. I. E. rule. Whereas the groin-line and the hips used to be the boundary line, we now have the sockets of the legs determining that line. The line is drawn directly across the body at the point where the angle is formed by the legs and the trunk while in the "on guard" position. The ultimate result is that it falls about three inches below the hips and rises the same distance from the groin. Altogether, we believe this will make sabre judging easier. The actual wording as given to us by Mr. Breed is: "The target comprises all parts of the body, including the head, arms and hands, above a horizontal line drawn through the highest points in the intersection of the thighs and the trunk of the fencers while in the 'on guard' position. This line is several inches below the waist or hip-line, depending upon the conformation of the individual."
