en FENCING BAN IN HIGH SCHOOLS

The most serious blow to fencing in New York was administered by Dr. John S. Roberts, of the Board of Education of this City, when he prohibited fencing practice and competition in the public high schools on the ground that it is a dangerous sport. Unless the principals of the schools want to continue it, therefore, the art of swordsmanship will lose its most important foothold among youngsters of the metropolitan area. Nineteen schools, with over 500 active fencers, are affected.

We think it is the duty of all fencers actively and articulately to protest against this ruling, which is hard to understand when really dangerous sports like football and hockey are to be continued.
