THE ELECTRICAL FOIL!!!
Our Foreign Correspondent tells us of a proposal to be considered in Brussels on February 28 and 29 for the adoption of Hungary’s new electrical machine in all official foil competitions of the F.I.E. As in the epee, the mechanism is designed to eliminate the jury with the exception of the director, but it is necessarily much more complicated. A system of three lights has been worked out: the white light indicates the first touch, a green light the second, while a red light shows touches outside the target.
Several men's finals in Hungary have been held with this apparatus, and at least one international women's match was run entirely with it. The rules for its use are now being drawn up, as the experience of these tournaments has proved most satisfactory. We shall want to know all about it as soon as the details are available.
Great Britain will propose the following: "In the foil and sabre, the vest of the fencers shall be so tailored as to entirely cover the target. It often happens that because of short vests hits are judged 'too low' when in reality they have reached a vulnerable part of the target."
