en THE NADI-SANTELLI EXHIBITIONS

We attended the opening night of the Nadi-Santelli exhibitions at the King Cole Room of the St. Regis last week. It was a grand event; the entertainment was excellent and the crowd congenial.

Aldo Nadi and George Santelli were announced by Mr. Leon M. Schoonmaker, and we were treated to a truly amazing sight. A night-club crowd, obviously enjoying themselves to the utmost, and convulsed with laughter over the antics of the various participants, was suddenly hushed. The dignity of the presentation and the deportment of the fencers themselves commanded absolute silence. Nadi and Santelli fenced an exhibition bout which brought the people to their feet. While the applause was still ringing throughout the room, Mr. Nadi brought Miss Barbara Cochrane on the strip and again there was silence. Miss Cochrane took a short lesson and then the two fenced a few touches. Throughout the affair, Nadi acted very gallant, and when he kissed Miss Cochrane's hand at the end of the bout it made a perfect finish. The crowd burst out with applause forceful enough to take several bows. Not only was it something entirely different, but a touch of the "old world" which gave it a tremendous appeal. Nadi and Santelli will give exhibitions every night except Sundays. At the present time, their engagement runs until the 12th of February.
