HUFFMAN WINS AGAIN
Dr. John R. Huffman again proved his superiority in the 3-weapon championship, winning over a strong field. In the finals he defeated Jose de Capriles 8-7. He dropped the foil and épée 2-3, but the sabre, his best weapon, he won 4-1.
By a coincidence, or are we underestimating their ability—the four finalists were the same as last year, finishing in the same order—Nickolas Muray and Miguel de Capriles being the semi-finalists.
A bout which held the attention of the spectators was that between Leo Nunes and Nick Muray. The score went to 5-5 with both fighting to enter the semi-finals. Finally, Nick made three straight hits which gave him the victory.
In the semi-final round Johnny Huffman defeated Mike de Capriles 8-6, losing only the épée 2-3, Jose de Capriles triumphed over Nick Muray 8-4, winning the sabre 2-0.
This competition is one of the most colorful. Every touch is vital, both for and against, as it is an elimination contest. Either you win or you're out.
