en JOSE DE CAPRILES WINS JR. FOILS

Jose de Capriles won the Jr. Foil Championship at the Columbia Gymnasium on Feb. 18, taking eight bouts in the final round robin of ten men. Norman Lewis (N.Y.U.) defeated Frank Impeciato, who had scored the only victory over de Capriles, in the last bout of the evening 5-3, to win the second place medal by one touch. Lewis and Impeciato each had seven victories, and 25 to 26 touches against them respectively.

Emil Goldstein, a favorite after his excellent showing in the Met. Foil last Saturday, tired toward the end and finished with three defeats as did Ralph Marson. The field was limited to the 8 qualifiers from New York (including Julian Bush, Ted Gold, and H.B. Wesselmann) and 2 from New Jersey, Cornell Veenstra and Guy Di Carlo.

Jose’s victory came after 2 successive second places in this tournament, and it was also his third consecutive Jr. Championship, as he won the Jr. Epee in 1934 and the Jr. Sabre last year.
