Warren Dow and the two de Capriles brothers captured the three weapon team championship without losing a single foil or epee bout. Dow was continuously pressing the attack and his aggressive tactics kept his opponents off balance. He climaxed his brilliant performance with a 5-0 defeat of Alessandroni in the semi-finals. The latter, however, was not up to par. He was slow, and misjudged his distance continuously. Jose de Capriles earned the plaudits of the audience with his cool, heady fencing. After trailing Thomas Sands, the national champion, 2-0 he changed his tactics completely and drew Tommy into exposing his wrist for three successive touches. His last and deciding touch against Tracy Jeckel in the finals was a beautifully timed stop on the wrist as Tracy began a flèche. Miguel de Capriles might as well have remained home, as the U.F.C. won each match before his turn came to fence. As it was, though, he fenced in better form than he has shown in the past few weeks, and lost only to Nicholas Murray.

One of the features of the tournament was the entry of a team called the fifty-plus. The team was composed of George Breed, foil; Piotr Mijer, epee; and Albert Straus, sabre. Their total age is 171 years, while that of their opponents and eliminators, the Stalwarts Club, aggregated to only 72. As Piotr Mijer remarked, “A century is too great a handicap to overcome.”

In the semi-finals, the Fencers Club B team defeated the N.Y.A.C. A team, although the latter was a favorite to win.
