MACERATA WINS ITALIAN TOURNAMENT
Giorgio Macerata, son of Dr. Macerata who taught fencing at Annapolis in 1932, won the National Epee tournament held in Merano, Italy. The final pool was a round-robin of 13 men and Macerata came first with 9 victories. Brusati, who will be remembered as the captain of the Italian team which visited the U.S. in the fall of 1934, came second with 8 wins and 17 touches against, while Ragno, a member of the Italian Olympic team of 1932, came third with 8 wins and 21 touches against.
Agostoni, who was third in the last Olympics, could do no better than sixth, and Minoli, another Olympic fencer of 1932, came seventh. Visconti and the two Rastelli brothers who accompanied Brusati on the American trip two years ago, came 8th, 9th, and 10th respectively.
There were two sets of brothers in the round-robin pool. The Rastellis, Giorgio and Dino, and the two Mangiarotti brothers, Edoardo, who came 4th, and Dario who came 11th. They, by the way, are the sons of the Italian Olympic Epee Coach.
