AMATEUR STANDING CLEARED
Vicious rumors have been current around New York questioning the amateur status of one of the members of the Olympic Team. Gossip finally reached such proportions that the Bout Committee deemed it only fair to present a petition to the Board of Governors of the A.F.L.A. requesting an investigation of the case. The Board appointed a fact-finding committee to clear up the matter, and after an exhaustive investigation, it reported its findings to the governing body.
By unanimous resolution, the Board found that there was absolutely no basis of fact for these rumors, which apparently are traceable to erroneous newspaper reports on the nature of this fencer's employment. The RIPOSTE is glad to communicate to its readers the substance of the Board's action, although the name of the fencer is withheld for reasons of policy. Rumors of this type, without factual foundation, are vicious and should be squelched in just the manner adopted by the Board.
