en REGULATIONS GOVERNING ELECTRICAL EPEE

1. The pointes d’arrêt may have only three or four prongs. The external edges of the prongs must form a cylindrical surface of a diameter between 6 and 8 mm., which must not be greater than the diameter of the rest of the button.

2. The point must resist a pressure of 250 grams, and must recede at least 1 mm. before registering a touch. Beyond the point of registration, it must NOT recede further than ½ mm. more.

3. No martingale is required with the electrical weapon.

4. The plugs within the guard of the weapon must have three contacts. The "neutral" connecting the guard must be 20 mm. away from the central contact; the contact connecting the pointe d’arrêt must be on the other side, at a distance of 15 mm.

5. The internal surface of the guard must be so arranged that it is impossible for the fingers of the fencer, while he is fencing, to come in contact with the wires.

6. Each fencer is responsible for his own equipment, and may not protest the result of a competition on the ground that his own equipment was defective. On the other hand, he is not responsible for the accidental or unforeseeable breakdowns of his equipment. If the equipment is good at the beginning of the bout, the fencer has complied with the requirements, and is not responsible for subsequent accidents.

7. If an epee is approved and tested "good" at the beginning, and a touch is registered shortly thereafter, the touch is valid, even if immediately after the registration of the touch, the epee gets out of order. Of course, the fencer is then required to change his epee.
