TIME THRUSTS
Did you know that Bernardo de la Guardia, well known sabre fencer of the N.Y.A.C., is going to be a one-man Olympic team? ... He will be Costa Rica’s sole representative at the Games in Berlin ... He is entered in the sabre individuals and is standard bearer, manager, captain, housing committee and other positions rolled into one. ----- The Southern California Division has made a very gallant gesture in favor of Andrew Boyd. ... It seems that Andy has held the divisional outdoor epee title for the past two seasons, so they have decided to hold up the competition until his return from the Olympics ... this will enable him to defend his title in September ... If he wins again this year we will gain permanent possession of the Duff Swords. ----- Giorgio Santelli was giving Phil Lubart a lesson in sabre and kept insisting that Phil parry “seconde.” Phil apparently has an instinctive reaction into “tierce” and Giorgio, in despair, finally yelled “seconde, seconde!”... “What’s the matter, can’t you understand English?”----- Johnny Huffman made one of those rare arm-cuts which seem to come from nowhere and for which Dr. Accel is so famous. When someone suggested it was pure luck John said “Oh no, it was an Accel-dent!” Huffman, justly proud of his pun, told Dr. Accel about it and Accel in his usual dry way, commented: “You should have said it was an Accellent shot.”
