SABRE INDIVIDUALS
After running a streak of 6 consecutive victories in the first round, John Huffman, lone representative of the United States in the second round, weakened and was eliminated. Peter Bruder and Norman Armitage failed to survive the first round.
Bruder won 3 and lost 3, and had a chance to fence-off for the qualifying place if Trinder of Great Britain, who then had 3 victories, lost to Italy’s 1932 foil champion Marzi who had won 4 and lost 0 up to that point. In a bout which created considerable comment, however, Trinder defeated Marzi 5-2 and earned the all-important 4th victory. Trinder had defeated Bruder 5-3 in the regular round.
In the finals, Marzi came 2nd to Kabos of Hungary. Kabos won 6 and lost 1, to Marzi, but the latter lost to Garay of Hungary and Sobik of Poland. Garay (formerly Gerevich) defeated all his opponents except his two teammates, Kabos and Rajcsanyi, and lost the runner-up position to Marzi on touches.
