NEW COMPETITIONS
The League Schedule of Events last year carried for the first time a three-weapons event for veterans. This innovation should become more and more popular as time goes on, because experience has shown that while many of our veterans have long remained an active threat to our younger fencers, others have been inclined to withdraw from the sport as increasing responsibilities interfered with their ability to maintain the form necessary in senior national events.
Encouraged by the success of the Olympic tryouts, and urged by the "senior" fencers who have complained that sufficient senior competitions have not been available, the Board of Governors has approved two new competitions open to "seniors" only. The first, an individual sabre event, is to be held at the Salle d’Armes Vince on Dec. 17. The second, an individual foil event, will be held at the Salle Santelli on Jan. 7.
