en IGNATOW WINS PREP FOIL

Archie Ignatow, sophomore at N.Y.U., won the first official competition in the Metropolitan district. The Prep Foil tournament this year had a record entry of 26. The winner received the mask and foil donated by Dr. Graeme M. Hammond.

The end of the regular round-robin final of six men ended in a triple tie between Ignatow, Ben Bukantz of CCNY, and Silvio Giolito of the Salle Santelli.

In the fence-off, Ignatow defeated Bukantz 5-4 and Giolito 5-3. The other finalists were Edward Weber of Brooklyn College, and Max Goldstein and Henry Levine of CCNY. The fencing was very good as a whole, and several of the more experienced men who attended the tournament commented on the fact that each year seems to bring an improvement in the caliber of fencing displayed at this Prep Tournament.
