en GIOLITO TAKES NOVICE FOIL

Silvio Giolito of the Salle Santelli, and winner of last year’s Interscholastic tournament, won 4 out of 5 bouts in the final round to win the Novice Foil tournament held at the N.Y.A.C. It was one of the longest and best-fought tournaments yet held, the field of 42 setting a new high for this competition.

The other finalists were James Castello (N.Y.U.), Larry Laughlin (Columbia), George Ferguson (Fencers Club), Daniel Bukantz (CCNY), and Archie Ignatow (N.Y.U.).

Besides Giolito, Ferguson attracted much attention with his excellent fencing. Particularly good were his well-executed remises in opposition.
