Since it is sometimes very difficult to get a good mixture for the epee "ink", we have been asked to publish the formula used by the Bout Committee of the A.F.L.A. for matches that are not held with the electrical weapon. Here it is:

3 parts Phenophthalein
5 parts Glycerine
3 parts Sodium Hydroxide
Thicken with Fuller's Earth.
(A Vaseline base can be used instead of Fuller's Earth)
