MISS LOCKE WINS VINCE TOURNAMENT
Miss Dorothy Locke, undefeated in her five final bouts, topped a fine field of nine to win the Gold Foil emblematic of first place in the Vince individual tournament held at the Salle d’Armes Vince. Miss Locke had some close calls, particularly when Miss Lloyd, her teammate from the Salle d’Armes Vince and her biggest rival, led at 4-1 but Miss Locke came through to win like a champion.
Miss Lloyd was twice defeated in the final, by Miss Locke and Miss Alessandroni; but the latter was also beaten twice, losing to Miss Locke and Miss Dalton. When the touches were counted, a perfect tie had resulted. In the fence-off for second place, Miss Marion Lloyd won handily 5-1.
Miss Maria Cerra, Miss Madeline Dalton, and Miss Barbara Cochrane were the other finalists. Miss Dalton scored a victory over Miss Lloyd in the qualifying pool, and the latter barely beat Mrs. Funke 5-4 to earn the second qualifying place.
Miss Cerra fenced some spectacular bouts, displaying a vigorous "ballestra" attack starting with a beat in octave which worked well against all except her club mates.
