en TRADITIONAL MEET HELD ON OLD DUELLING GROUNDS

The traditional Duelling Oaks Meet was held again in New Orleans on Sunday, May 9th, under the sponsorship of Les Chevaliers de la Nouvelle Orleans and administered by the Fencers Federation of New Orleans. The event was held in the City Park on the old duelling ground, hallowed by the history of thousands of duels held there in former days. The meet was part of the annual Park Festival and the spectators numbered well over 3000.

As usual, the competition was held on the basis of direct elimination, with the provision that victory must be by not less than a two-point lead in foil and sabre. Contestants were divided into Junior and Senior classes according to their ability. The trophies, known as the Duelling Oaks Cups, and donated by friendly individuals and business firms, will remain in the winners' possession until the next Meet.

The following were the victors:
Miss Anna Koll, of McMain Girls High School, in the junior foil, and Miss Lareine Gladden, also of the McMain school, in the senior foil.

The Men's junior foil was won by Mr. David Melville, of Fortier High, and Chevalier James Janssen won the senior foil event.

Chevalier Francis Winter won the junior epee, while Chevalier James Janssen took the senior epee trophy.

Leonard Avery of Shreveport YMCA won the junior sabre and Joseph Lienhard of the same club won the senior event.
