en MISS AIDA PRINCIPE WINS MANRIQUE MEDAL

Miss Aida Principe, representing the Washington Fencers Club, won a three-cornered tie for first place to take the Manrique medal, emblematic of the novice championship for women in the Metropolitan district. Miss Principe attains a junior rank by virtue of her victory. In the fence-off, Miss Principe turned back Miss Lisel Lowenherz, of the Greco Fencing Academy, 5-4, reversing the score which had resulted in the regular round-robin final. The third member of the three-cornered tie, Miss Addi Bassi, of the Metropolitan Fencers Club, was turned back 5-2.

Miss Lowenherz and Miss Bassi were not permitted to fence off for second and third places, as there was only one medal. Both girls, however, showed to advantage in a field which was disappointingly weak. With few exceptions, the girls seemed to forget their training and frequently the bouts lost all semblance of fencing.

Final Round:
Miss Aida Principe, Washington F.C.: 2 v.
Miss Lisel Lowenherz, Greco Academy: 2 v.
Miss Addi Bassi, Metropolitan F.C.: 2 v.
Miss Gabrielle Haddis, Hunter: 0 v.

Fence-off:
Miss Principe defeated Miss Bassi 5-2 and Miss Lowenherz 5-4.
There was no bout to determine the second and third places.
