ARMITAGE WINS SENIOR SABRE
Norman C. Armitage, of the Fencers Club, defeated Miguel A. de Capriles of the Salle Santelli in the fence-off for first place in the Senior Sabre meet held at the Salle d’Armes Vince. In the last bout of the regular round robin, Armitage, defeated earlier in the evening by Ralph Marson, faced the previously undefeated de Capriles. It necessitated two consecutive victories against de Capriles to win the meet, and that is just what Armitage proceeded to earn. Both bouts were full of fast exchanges and exciting actions, but the Fencers Club man availed himself of every opportunity and won by 5-2 and 5-3 scores.
In all his other bouts, M. de Capriles was complete master of the situation, winning easily against all but Huffman and Marson.
Ralph Marson, of the N.Y.A.C., and John R. Huffman of the same club tied for third place. Marson nosed out the National Champion by the margin of two touches scored after a tie in the count of touches received. Marson was the big surprise of the tournament, showing a tremendous improvement over last year. He was the only man who was able to turn back Armitage.
J. de Capriles, Salle Santelli; Samuel T. Stewart, N.Y.A.C.; Philip Lubart, Salle Santelli; James Flynn, Salle Santelli; and Ervin Acel, N.Y.A.C. completed the round robin and finished in that order.
