en MISS GRIMMELMANN WINS JUNIOR CROWN

Attains Senior Rank in Impressive Victory at the Fencers Club.

Miss Dorothy Grimmelmann of the Salle Santelli, returning to her excellent early-season form, won the women's Junior National individual title by a comfortable margin. The winner suffered her only defeat of the evening at the hands of Miss Maria Cerra of the Salle Vince in the first round, but avenged this set-back when they met again in the final pool. The Santelli star's performance brought high praise from a large gallery of distinguished fencers.

Miss Barbara Cochrane, team mate of the new champion, nosed out Miss Cerra for second place on the count of touches. Both Girls had finished with three victories, but Miss Cochrane had been reached only 14 times as compared to 21 against Miss Cerra.

Miss Aida Principe of the Washington Fencers Club tied with Miss Dorothy Hafner of the Waverly Club for the fourth position. The count of touches awarded Miss Principe that place. Miss Lisel Lowenherz of the Greco Fencing Academy was the sixth finalist. Much credit is due to Miss Lowenherz, who has showed a consistent improvement in her first year of A.F.L.A. competition.

The elimination of Miss Mildred Stewart came as a surprise to many who figured her as one of the threats for the title. Miss Stewart missed a place in the final round when the Misses Hafner and Principe qualified on the count of touches after tying with her in bouts.

The field included girls from New York, New Jersey, Washington and Long Island.
