Sur la Planche : Les Frères Boulenger The article profiles the Boulenger brothers, Marcel and Jacques, who excel both in literature and fencing. Marcel, described as lean and energetic, contrasts with his younger, larger brother Jacques, who is equally skilled. Known for their flamboyant personalities, the brothers often mocked their fencing opponents through witty commentary and unconventional practices, such as wearing tight white uniforms and using monocles. They were celebrated fencers, consistently successful in matches, trained by renowned masters, and members of prestigious fencing clubs.
In addition to their prowess with the sword, both brothers were accomplished writers. Marcel's novels, marked by passion and flair, were well-received, while Jacques was recognized for his scholarly work on dandies of the Louis-Philippe era. Their lifestyle was a blend of intense intellectual labor and elegant sportsmanship, embodying a new generation of writers who embraced physical fitness alongside intellectual pursuits. This shift marked a departure from the frail image of the romantic writer, aligning with the classical ideal of a healthy mind in a healthy body.

St. Maixent Salle d'Escrime Postcard Postcard from 1914 with an image of the salle d'armes of St. Maixent, home of the French l'École Militaire de l'Infanterie from 1881 to 1967, and the École Nationale des Sous-Officiers d'Active from 1963 to the current day.
A handwritten note on the back of the card is dated July 28, 1914 from Saint Maixent:
